Barriers To Employment Overcome
Being homeless and transient can be one of the many issues that people who are unemployed may face. Living out of her car and moving between Melbourne and Ballarat on a regular basis, Annie was struggling to find the resources and tools to establish herself and get back on her feet.
Overwhelmed and not sure how to change her circumstances, Annie engaged with Centacare Employment to assist her in finding work. She then met with her Job Advisor and started to explore her accommodation and employment goals as ways to improve her life and provide her with a chance to build a real future for herself.
It was evident that Annie had a strong desire to get a job, but unfortunately due to losing her driver’s licence and not having stable accommodation this created barriers to her job search.
Centacare was able to support Annie by providing her with a refurbished computer so that she could continue to job search while staying with friends. Her Job Advisor also assisted with her to complete a refresher First Aid course, gain a Working with Children’s Check and a current police check. She was provided with travel expenses so that she could get to and from job interviews.
Annie was delighted when she was successful in gaining a casual position as a Youth Residential – Out of Home Care Worker, which is now giving her an opportunity to rebuild her life and look forward to a positive future.
