Education barriers overcome through Clemente program

Clemente, a free higher education program for those impacted by barriers to education, is currently recruiting students for the second semester. The unit topic, ‘Introduction to Sociology’ will commence on 30th July and will be delivered by Dr Jeremy Smith, from Federation University, Ballarat.

Clemente provides an introduction to Tertiary Education, in a safe, secure and encouraging environment. The program is provided at no cost for participants, aiding students to overcome any barriers to education. Barriers can include but not limited to, mental health, addiction, social disadvantage or financial hardship.

Provided throughout the program is access to computers, library resources, printing, course materials and text books. Children are welcome, if accessing childcare is a barrier to enrolment.

The program aims to empower people through educational opportunities that builds self-esteem, confidence and the development of written and communication skills. On the successful completion of four units, Clemente students will graduate with a Certificate in Liberal Studies, enabling the opportunity for employment or further education.
