Koori Engagement Worker – Victims of Crime Program
Centacare has recruited a Koori Engagement Worker to strengthen support to aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victims of Crime in the South West.
Under the statewide initiative by the Department of Justice and Regulation Centacare received an increase in funding to expand the Victims Assistance Programs to include specific Koori Engagement worker positions.
The existing Koori Engagement Worker position in Ballarat will continue to provide engagement and support to Koori communities in the Grampians region.
The Koori Engagement Worker will liaise with Aboriginal organisations and networks across the South West to strengthen links and relationships with local communities. They will participate in activities across the region that promote an awareness of the Victims Assistance Program in local communities.
Koori victims of crime will be provided with strengthened culturally appropriate support and assistance to promote their recovery from the impact of crime, including assistance to navigate the criminal justice system and support when attending police stations and law courts.
