Lending a hand this winter
The Advocacy team have recently distributed winter resource items to local support services, lending a hand to those in need through providing basic essentials to help keep warm this winter.
Aiming to extend the reach of support to people experiencing hardship, the packages have been distributed widely to other service providers to enable anyone needing items to keep warm. The Council to Homeless Person’s data released for Homelessness Week shows that in Ballarat under 10 percent of people experiencing homelessness were sleeping rough, with a vast majority in supported accommodation, couch surfing, sleeping in cars or in overcrowded dwellings.
The packages include warm blankets, beanies, socks and hand knitted items donated by the Ballarat Soup Bus and they are available to anyone in need.
The items can be collected from both the Centacare Central Office and Centacare’s Family Relationship Centre along with other local support services including;
- Uniting Ballarat
- Salvation Army
- St Vincent’s De Paul
Resource boxes are also located at Centacare offices in Horsham, Warrnambool and Mildura.
For anyone experiencing homelessness or hardship contact the Advocacy Support team on 03 5337 8999 or drop into the Central office at 4-6 Peel St Nth Ballarat.
