Local employment services provider awarded the Disability Employment Services Grant

Centacare Ballarat has been successful in its bid to provide Disability Employment Services (DES) Employment Support Services, in the Ballarat Region.

The DES program, funded by the Federal Department of Social Services, will be changing from 1 July 2018. These changes are in response to the findings from broad ranging community consultations which involved people with disability, disability peak organisations, disability service providers and employers. Under the new changes, people with disability will have greater choice about the service they receive and how they receive them.

Centacare’s Chief Executive Officer, Tony Fitzgerald, sees the future changes will provide stronger supports for people with a disability, and will provide opportunities for both participants and organisations in the local community.

‘Centacare is committed to assisting people to achieve their full potential. For many people, including those with disability, having a job opens up new possibilities for them and their families. Employers too benefit from having a diverse and keen workforce,’ he said.

‘For Centacare, as a local and well established community organisation, the DES Grant enables our agency to expand on our successful jobactive Employment Service, and to also assist people with disability.’

‘We hope that, with this Grant we can assist both participants and local business to build stronger, more inclusive communities in the Ballarat, Daylesford and Avoca areas.’

The new DES program will start on 1 July 2018.
